After Mardi Gras krewes were sent scrambling to find Louisiana POST-certified law enforcement officers to help cover their pre-pandemic parade routes, there may be a breakthrough coming soon.

The Orleans Parish Sheriff's Office is reportedly close to providing enough deputies for parade krewes to begin at their traditional start points. Because of the dwindling number of New Orleans Police Officers, most parade routes were shortened this year to start at Prytania St. and Napoleon.

The shortened route meant dozens of blocks that usually see parades pass would be skipped for the third time, with routes being similarly shortened during Mardi Gras 2022, and no parades at all in 2021 because of the pandemic.

"Apparently there was a meeting last night that put all these things together," said Mardi Gras Guide publisher Arthur Hardy, but he also said he has not been made aware of anything official.

"I'm still waiting to see a real press release or something that makes it official," Hardy told WWL First News. "Right now I'm just not comfortable celebrating just yet."
