Between now and New Year's, more than 120 million Americans are traveling more than 50 miles from home, and they're benefiting from the lowest gas prices since the pandemic.
At around $2.85 a gallon nationwide, the month of December hasn't had prices this low since we were still dealing with the coronavirus.
"And last time we saw December that was cheaper prices was December of 2020, so we're definitely getting a bargain," said AAA fuel analyst Don Redman.
You can fill up in New Orleans for less than $2.50 a gallon. Whether you're traveling or finishing your holiday shopping, Redman says that's a plus.
"And it certainly has helped the family economy," he said. "It's a trickling effect. It affects your grocery prices, it affects your shopping for any kind of local goods you may be getting during the shopping season."
In fact, 2025 overall has been a stable year for gasoline.
"It's boring, which is good news," Redman said.
