Deputies: Man crashes car, breaks into home, goes to sleep
St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office

The St. Tammany Parish Sheriff's Office arrested a resident of the Quail Creek subdivision on a variety of charges after, investigators say, he crashed his vehicle into a tree, broke into a nearby house, and went to sleep.

Deputies were sent to the neighborhood early this morning after reports of the vehicle, abandoned at the crash site near the subdivision's entrance.

"Deputies located the heavily damaged, unoccupied vehicle near the intersection of Soult Street and Sycamore Place, and determined the registered owner was a resident of Quail Creek," according to a news release from Sgt. Suzanne Carboni.

After another Quail Creek resident called to report a strange man sleeping in her house, deputies located 43-year-old Stephen Carlin.

"Deputies woke Carlin, who appeared to be heavily intoxicated, and arrested him," said Carboni. "He was booked into the St. Tammany Parish Correctional Center for Careless Operation, Failure to Report a Crash and Unauthorized Entry of an Inhabited Dwelling."
