A deputy sheriff in Washington Parish is fired and arrested, after the sheriff says the deputy was involved in a Franklinton shooting while off duty.
Sheriff Jason Smith says Lt. Jay Dupre was off-duty when he was involved in the 1:30 a.m. incident on Bud Slocum Road.
No one was hurt, but the sheriff said due to the serious nature of the allegations, he fired the 15-year-veteran.
"I requested that the Louisiana State Police conduct an independent criminal investigation, said Sheriff Smith. "After reviewing the initial facts, I terminated Lieutenant Dupre's employment with the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office."
After further investigation, authorities booked Dupre on charges of home invasion and aggravated assault with a firearm.
No further details were released.
