Hurricane season is 12 days away, and already we have a sub-tropical low in the Atlantic with a 90 percent chance of developing into a depression or Sub-tropical Storm Ana over the next five days. It is a reminder that tropical weather experts are predicting another busy storm season for us.
Hurricane season begins June 1. So does this mean the active season that has been predicted is likely to come true?
"Yes, unfortunately, it is a pretty common sign for an active season," said Jhordanne Jones, graduate researcher with the Department of Atmospheric Science at Colorado State University.
Jones said they are predicting 17 named storms in 2021: at least five tropical storms, eight hurricanes, and four major hurricanes.
Even though that is nowhere near the 30 names storms of 2020, it is still a much busier than average season.
