The FBI announced arrests in relation to 5 drug busts across Louisiana, which resulted in the seizure of 335 pounds of meth, 25 pounds of fentanyl, and 253 pounds of cocaine.
"In Breaux Bridge... there we have roughly 325 pounds of methamphetamine concealed in an ice cream machine that was being towed on the interstate," announced U.S. Attorney for the Western District of Louisiana Zachary Keller at a press conference Tuesday. "In Lafayette... we have roughly 225 pounds of cocaine in a truck bed."
"(These drugs) were found and recovered as part of the investigations that spanned the state - that spanned Shreveport, Breaux Bridge, Lafayette, and Alexandria," Keller continued.
Officials went on to say that, "The Shreveport case involved a death that resulted from the defendants' fentanyl trafficking in their possession of firearms."
One of the 10 defendants in the Shreveport case, Willie Baker, was described by Special Agent in charge of the New Orleans field office, Jonathan Tapp, as "Allegedly, one of the main distributors of illegal drugs in north Louisiana. Facts from our investigation assert he was bringing in significant amounts of illegal narcotics into this state... Their reach stretches through to north and central Louisiana and across the state line into Houston. That's where their supplier is also behind bars."
"In amplifying these cases here today, we want to be clear on the messages we're sending to our communities across Louisiana: We're working night and day, weekends and holidays, together, federal and state, to remove these drugs from our streets and to put the peopl who are selling them behind bars," said Zachary Keller.
U.S Attorneys for the Western District of Louisiana also announced that former Louisiana Wildlife and Fisheries Secretary Jack Montoucet pleaded guilty to a federal kickback scheme. Montoucet will be setnenced June 30th, and faces up to 5 years in prison and a $250,000 fine.
