Cops says they have arrested a drunk driver who fled the scene of a Westbank crash that left one person dead and another in the hospital.

"Sheriff Joseph Lopinto reports that the Jefferson Parish Sheriff’s Office is investigating a fatal hit-and-run crash that occurred last night in Harvey," Detective Brandon Veal said in a news release.

It happened shortly before midnight.

"Deputies discovered an adult male and an adult female lying in the southbound lanes near the intersection of Apache Dr., and Manhattan Blvd., both suffering from injuries consistent with being struck by a vehicle. The male was pronounced dead on the scene. Emergency medical personnel transported the female to an area hospital for treatment."

Veal says moments later deputies were dispatched to the 1100 block of Manhattan Blvd., in reference to another crash.

"Upon arrival, deputies observed a white Chevrolet Silverado with significant damage to the front consistent with being involved in a crash. The vehicle was driven by Travis Barnes, 46, of Marrero."

He says Barnes was booked for vehicular homicide, first degree vehicular negligent injury, driving while intoxicated, hit-and-run driving involving serious or fatal injury,  and careless operation.

"The female suffered a head injury and a spinal fracture."
