Early voting in Louisiana for next week's election ends today, and the numbers so far show a lot of voters did not want to wait until November 5.
So far, more than 760,000 early votes have been cast, said Louisiana Pollster John Couvillon of JMC Analytics.
Couvillon says there may be a couple hundred thousand more in-person by the time the polls close, and another 20,000 absentee votes coming in by mail.
"Tuesday's the last day. You're going to have the procrastinators show up, so add another 10 to 20 (thousand) to that total, so in other words, we're knocking on the door of a million early voters," said Couvillon.
Another reason Couvillon expects early voting this cycle to outstrip the last presidential election: the weather.
"You will remember in 2020 that hurricane that came barreling through Orleans and Jefferson parishes at the last minute that forced a couple days of early voting to be canceled?," said Couvillon, referring to Hurricane Zeta. "That was probably, like, 20,000 who could have early voted but did not, but we, of course, don't have a hurricane to worry about this time around."
Couvillon says Republicans are outnumbering Democrats in early voting statewide.
