Text alerts from state emergency officials warning Louisiana residents about icy roads and other dangerous conditions caused by the deep freeze were a little different than in past incidents: these messages let residents know the warnings were coming from Governor Jeff Landry.
"It's Louisiana politics, so there's always more than two ways to look at it," said LaPolitics editor and publisher Jeremy Alford.
Alford says the messages, that began "This is Louisiana Gov. Jeff Landry," followed by emergency information, served multiple purposes.
"For starters, I think that the governor is the kind of hands-on politicians who wants to show Louisiana residents that the buck stops with him," said Alford. "But I also think the last thing a Louisiana politician is going to do is miss the opportunity to promote their own name."
Messages were also pushed to people who receive notifications from the La-wallet app.
