A fire at a scrap and recycling center in New Orleans caused a foul smell in the air Friday morning.

It happened at the Southern Recycling junkyard in the 4800 block of Florida Boulevard according to the New Orleans Fire Department.

A WWL listener sent a text to the newsroom just before 7:00 a.m. saying, "There is a very bad electrical smoke smell like a big electrical fire somewhere. Its horrible... in Gentilly area."

The odor could be smelled all across the Gentilly neighborhood. NOFD firefighters were quick to the scene to put the fire out.

This is the second fire at the junkyard in one month. A three-alarm fire broke out at the scrap yard on March 23.
