Fishermen rescued from capsized boat south of Terrebonne Parish

Point Au Fer Rescue
United States Coast Guard Section 8

Two boaters are safe and on land after the United States Coast Guard rescued them from their capsized vessel in the Gulf of Mexico.

That rescue happened around 10:25 p.m. Thursday about two miles south of Point Au Fer Island.

According to Coast Guard officials, watchstanders received a call from St. Mary Parish 911 dispatchers about a 35-foot fishing boat with two people aboard that was taking on water.
The Coast Guard sent a helicopter crew to the scene, while the Terrebonne and St. Mary Parish sheriff’s offices sent small boats to assist in the rescue.

The helicopter crew located the boat and the two crewmembers, who were standing on the hull. The helicopter crew hoisted the boaters onto their chopper and brought them to the Houma-Terrebonne Airport.

The boaters’ conditions were reportedly stable. No word if they were ever taken to a hospital for treatment.
