Four to five inches of rain have fallen over New Orleans since this afternoon. As a result, a flash flood warning is in effect for the New Orleans Metro Area.
The National Weather Service says that warning is in effect until 9:30 p.m. for Orleans, Jefferson, St. Bernard, and Plaquemines Parishes.
Weather service meteorologists say another two to three inches of rain are possible before the line of showers pounding the region pushes out of the area.
Some local roads and waterways are already flooding, causing problems for residents in some parts of the region. Drivers are urged to avoid flooded roads.
