Cops say a driver for a food delivery service bringing a meal to a home near Slidell ended up getting shot at Tuesday.
Investigators say it was a case of mistaken identity, but ended up leading detectives to a house full of marijuana and guns.
Sgt. Suzanne Carboni says it all started Tuesday afternoon in the Alton community near Slidell.
"Shortly after 2:30 p.m., STPSO deputies were dispatched to the 37000 block of North Third Street in reference to a vehicle being struck by gunfire," she explained. "No one was injured."
The call, however, led police to a nearby house.
"A search warrant (was) conducted after a residence was identified as the location from which the shooting occurred."
Inside detectives say they found the above pictured weapons and pot... and four children.
Carboni says one suspect confessed to shooting at the car.
"Dequan Moore admitted to the shooting at the vehicle and advised it was because he thought someone may have fired at him, which was proven to not be the case. The victim in the case was simply delivering food to a separate residence, was alone at the time and had no previous interaction with anyone involved."
Nine people were arrested on drugs, weapons and child endangerment charges.
“I want to thank the patrol deputies who responded to the initial call and the detectives with our Major Crimes Division who worked hard this afternoon and evening,” Sheriff Randy Smith said. “They not only quickly identified the individual who fired the shots, but also made several related arrests after discovering a residence where children were found to be living with illegal narcotics and dangerous firearms left easily accessible and within their reach.”
