Former St. Tammany Parish Sheriff Jack Strain today received his sentence -- four life terms plus 30 years. A jury convicted Strain in November of aggravated rape and incest.
The life sentences were mandatory for the four convictions on aggravated rape charges. The jury also found Strain guilty on two counts of aggravated incest, one count of sexual battery, and one count of indecent behavior with a juvenile.
After the state court convictions, Strain pleaded guilty in federal court on a single count of bribery, settling a federal corruption case that was also pending against him.
While the federal case had nothing to do with the sex crimes case, it was during the federal investigation, and the publicity surrounding it, that victims first came forward and accused Strain of rape.
