French Quarter Festival, the spring spectacular featuring local musicians, headliners and everything in between is now on hold until Fall.
With the coronavirus still running rampant through New Orleans and the state, festival management decided it was best to delay the fest rather than put on show with questionable attendance, if at all.
The “world’s largest showcase of Louisiana music’ brings in as many as 800,000 concertgoers a year.
This is will be the second time in a row the fest has been postponed.
Last year organizers delayed the festival until Fall, but were ultimately forced to cancel the fest altogether.
WWL-TV spoke with local sound engineer and staging specialists Miguel Barrosse who said, “It’s a real gut punch for the industry and for myself and lots of my coworkers and friends, but it’s what has to be done I suppose.”
The TV station reports the New Orleans Jazz and Heritage Festival is also up for delay until Fall as well.
The event usually comes in behind French Quarter Festival in late April and early May.
“The best thing that we can do is be prepared for it when it does happen,” Barrosse explains. “As of now, we’re looking at October, the October time.”
No definitive date for the rescheduling has been announced.
