New Orleans surging death rate from homicides continues to spiral upward with the death of two victims on Friday.
The first occurred just before 5pm in the Fifth District off Almonaster and Florida Avenues on the edge of St. Roch.
Fifth District officers responded and upon arrival, officers discovered an unresponsive male subject on the ground.
The victim was declared deceased at the scene.
At that time, the incident was under investigation as an unclassified death.
As the investigation progressed, the victim was found to have sustained at least one gunshot wound.
Further evidence and circumstances of the incident led detectives to determine the subject was the victim of a homicide.
Later on Friday night a man arrived at a local hospital with a gunshot wound.
Initially, the man indicated he was shot in New Orleans East near Read and Curran Boulevards.
Investigators are currently in the process of gathering evidence and information to identify the person(s) responsible for this incident, as well as a motive.
