Things are slightly changing for the better when it comes to gas and crude oil prices. Don Redman with AAA says school is back in session, which means parents are settled in at home and demand for fuel isn't as high.

Redman says he doesn't anticipate any further significant drop in local gas prices soon, but they have dropped about a nickel a gallon from a week ago.

He says the price of crude was averaging in the ballpark of $95 a barrel two weeks ago, but is now hovering in the area of $85.

Redman says those in the market are nervous about China's economy as well as that here in the U.S.

He says here in our nation's market, "even though some numbers look very robust it's kind of like reading tea leaves, the people who invest in energy are trying to guess where the economy is going", including from a global perspective.

Redman expects prices to stabilize about where they are.

Across metro New Orleans today, AAA's survey finds a gallon of gas averages $3.309, down about two cents from yesterday, and down more than seven cents since last month.

Last year, gas in New Orleans averaged $3.127 per gallon.
