Usually the price of gasoline plateaus at its seasonal high from Memorial Day into July, but this summer, the price has gone up.
AAA analyst Don Redman says the culprit is a ten-dollar-a-barrel run-up in the price of crude oil.
"We've certainly seen the prices escalate, and it's largely because the price of crude," said Redman. But he says the increase in the price of gas should not last too much longer.
"With OPEC agreeing to increase production," said Redman, "you saw crude oil just this week fall from $75 to $66."
Redman says that may offer relief to drivers starting next month.
Regular-octane gasoline in New Orleans today costs an average of $2.777 a gallon, compared to $2.686 a month ago.
Analyst expects prices to come down soon
