A Gretna man is will spend the rest of his life in prison after a jury convicted him of shooting his sister’s boyfriend.
The jury deliberated for 75 minutes before returning a guilty verdict against Jose Robles Marques on Thursday.
Marques shot and killed José Salomon Fernandez Barrientos in a bedroom of his Newton Street home on March 1, 2022. Prosecutors argued that Marques shot Fernandez five times after Fernandez got into an argument with Marques’s sister. Defense attorneys argued that Marques was defending his sister from an act of domestic violence, making the shooting a justifiable homicide.
Marques’s formal sentencing is scheduled for Wednesday.
