The fourth teen defendant in the Linda Frickey murder case has been convicted of second-degree murder.
Jurors deliberated for about four hours before returning to the courtroom to announced their guilty verdict against John Honoré. Honoré, 18, was one of the four teens who carjacked Frickey in March 2022.
Honoré was the driver when the teens sped away in Frickey’s car, dragging her along a Mid-City street, dismembering Frickey in the process.
During opening arguments, Honoré’s attorney told jurors, “He did it.” However, the attorney argued that Honoré did not deserve the automatic life sentence that comes with a second-degree murder conviction because his client did not have murderous intent.
Last week, Honoré’s three codefendants all pleaded guilty to lesser charges of attempted manslaughter in exchange for 20-year prison sentences. The Orleans Parish District Attorney’s Office rejected a plea deal proposed by Honoré’s attorney’s last week, setting the stage for today’s trial.
No word on when Honoré will be formally sentenced.
