The company that manages the Superdome, Smoothie King Center, and other state-owned sports venues in New Orleans says the money they get from hotel/motel taxes is down a little, despite tourism's strong comeback from the pandemic.
Superdome executive Doug Thornton says it is down about $1.5 million.
"This is really not unexpected news or a surprise to us, because we've got a little weaker convention schedule in 2023, the calendar year compared to previous," said Thornton.
Self-generated revenue, on the other hand, is up.
"We had a big Garth Brooks show as you know, during Labor Day, and we've had strong attendance for the Saints games," Thornton said. "Our per-capita spending continues to outperform our budget, too, with our live events."
