The Orleans Parish coroner says an alligator trapped near where 12-year-old Bryan Vasquez's body was found had human remains in its digestive system.

The New Orleans Police Department says the alligator was caught in the lagoon near Sevres Street in Village de L'Est.

Those remains will be tested to see if they match the body of Vasquez.

Vasquez's body was found last month in New Orleans East, after he disappeared weeks earlier.

The coroner ruled the boy drowned after being attacked by an alligator.

Vasquez's mother faces charges in the case. Police say they found a pattern of abuse and neglect that contributed to the child wandering his neighborhood at midnight before disappearing.
