The St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Office has identified the human remains found in a field near the Washington Parish line.

The skeletal remains were found in a field at the end of Chadell Rd. January 18. The Washington Parish Sheriff's Office was called to investigate. Since the remains were actually found just over the parish line, the St. Tammany Parish Coroner's Offices took charge of identifying them.

Through DNA analysis, the remains have been positively identified as Daryl D. Jenkins, a man reported missing from Picayune, Mississippi in July.

The cause and manner of death remain under investigation.

"I’m extremely grateful for the cooperation and assistance of the St. Tammany Parish Coroner in bringing us closer to resolution on this case," said Washington Parish Sheriff Randy Seal. "We often rely on our justice system partners in other parishes, and we appreciate this quick work."

"Hopefully, providing the identification of Mr. Jenkins will bring Sheriff Seal and the Picayune Police closer to solving this mystery and giving closure to the decedent’s family," said St. Tammany Coroner Dr. Charles Preston.
