A search for arrowheads led to the discovery of human remains in a field last week, the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office announced today.

According to the sheriff's office, an individual searching a field on the east end of Chadell Road came across what he believed to be human bones, and called the Washington Parish Sheriff's Office.

Crime scene technicians and the LSU Forensic Anthropology and Computer Enhancement Services (FACES) lab responded and recovered the remains.

It turns out the remains were on the St. Tammany side of the parish line, so the St. Tammany coroner along with the FACES lab will work to identify the remains.

The remains appear to have been there "an extended period of time," according to the sheriff's office. Anyone who might have information is asked to call Detective Captain Raymond Meyers at (985) 661-2024.

"There are still many unanswered questions concerning this death," said Washington Parish Sheriff Randy Seal. "The person could have been local, but it is possible he was from a nearby parish or Mississippi county."
