French Quarter Festival starts this Thursday. Today, New Orleans officials revealed the city's plan to protect public safety.

The city says that in addition to the NOPD Eighth District being 100 percent staffed, there will be an extra 230 officers assigned to the event.

New Orleans officials today also announced there will be 200 officers assigned to Jazz Fest, which begins April 23.

NOPD will have support from Louisiana State Police and Louisiana National Guard.

Both festivals will also have New Orleans EMS personnel stationed at various areas around the events.

"Residents and visitors are encouraged to plan ahead, stay aware of their surroundings, and utilize official City resources for updates," the city said. "Festivalgoers are also encouraged to review official event guidelines, including prohibited items and entry policies, on the French Quarter Festival and New Orleans Jazz & Heritage Festival websites prior to attending."
