Special-needs child injured in hit-&-run, NOPD looking for driver

New Orleans Police says this white Jeep Cherokee of unknown model year badly injured a special-needs child Friday morning, April 17, in Algiers.

A 13-year-old child with special needs was trying to walk to school and instead ended up hospitalized after being struck by a hit-and-run driver in Algiers, the New Orleans Police Department says.

Shortly after 8 a.m. Friday morning, police say this white Jeep Cherokee was traveling west on Gen. Meyer Ave. when it struck the child at Farragut St., near Federal City.

The impact was severe enough that the victim was flung ten feet from the point of collision.

The driver fled the scene.

The vehicle did not appear to have a license plate. Police say they believe it sustained front-end damage.

Anyone with information is asked to call NOPD Fourth District detectives at (504) 658-6040, or Crimestoppers at (504) 822-1111 or toll free at (877) 903-7867 (STOP).

Callers to Crimestoppers do not have to leave their names and may be eligible for a cash reward.
