Although the latest forecast models show Tropical Storm Isaias pushing away from Louisiana as it approaches the Gulf Coast, Louisiana emergency preparedness officials say they're not letting their guard down.
Brigadier General Jason Mahfouz, the director of the Louisiana Governor's Office of Homeland Security and Emergency Preparedness, told WWL's Tommy Tucker that even though Isaias's track shows the storm headed towards the Alabama-Florida State Line, state leaders remain vigilant.
"We must remain weather aware," Mahfouz said. "October storms, in particular, always throw us a curveball. Most recently, Delta and Zeta come to mind."
According to Mahfouz, state leaders are hoping for the best, but they are prepared for a worst-case scenario.
"GOHSEP is always postured and leaning forward and ready to help the parishes as they identify requirements and capability gaps," Mahfouz said. "October storms are not unusual. While we would hope and pray for diminished effects, we need to be prepared."
