After the multi-car crash on I-55 that claimed several lives, future plans from the Louisiana Department of Transportation and Development could include investment in new technology.
Super fog, a mix of smoke and fog, has been blamed for Monday's horrific pileup. But other states have made technological improvements that have helped alert drivers of unsafe road conditions.
Rodney Mallet, Director of Communications for the DoTD, explained the process for implementing such changes and possible roadblocks to consider.
Mallet says, “People who need to travel will still travel and that creates an unsafe situation. So, as we look to see what can be put in place, we have to look at all the unintended consequences.”
Northbound I-55 remains closed due to extensive damage and Mallet said that makes determining a deadline for repair impossible at this time.
