A Walmart in LaPlace is expected to reopen today after an incident forced store managers to close the business early on Friday. That incident led to the arrests of a juvenile.
According to St. John the Parish Baptist Parish sheriff's deputies, two groups in a nearby neighborhood were involved in an argument when someone started shooting a gun. One of the groups ran into the Walmart. The juvenile was arrested for having a gun. Several others were detained by deputies, but officials did not say if they were booked into jail.
The sheriff's office published a Facebook post in hopes of reassuring residents that the store was safe. That post read, "There is NOT an active shooter at Walmart. Depuites are on the scene, and the situation is under control."
