Reports: Iraq arrests second Bourbon Street terror attack suspect

Bourbon Attack
WWL

Iraqi officials say they've arrested a suspected ISIS member who collaborated with the man who executed the January 1 terrorist attack on Bourbon Street.

Our partners at NOLA.com, citing the state-owned Saudi outlet Al Arabiya News, report that Iraqi authorities arrested the unnamed conspirator. That arrest came after the United States asked for Iraq's assistance in the investigation.

According to Iraq's Supreme Judicial Council, the suspect "was arrested for inciting the January 2025 truck attack in the United States." The council further accused the suspect of being "a member of the external operations office of the Daesh terrorist organization," using the Arabic acronym for the Islamic State.

Shamsud-Din Jabbar killed 14 people and injured another 57 during the New Year's Day attack. Federal investigators believe he had become radicalized prior to carrying out the attack.

The arrest came after a request from U.S. authoritis for assistance in the investigation. Despite Iraq's announcement, the FBI says Shamsud-din Jabbar acted alone.
