Jail escapee Antoine Massey arrested in New Orleans

Antoine Massey Arrest
Louisiana State Police

Six weeks to the day after 10 inmates escaped from the Orleans Parish Jail, police arrested one of the escapees, leaving only one at large.

New Orleans police confirmed that they arrested one of the two remaining escapees Friday afternoon. However, authorities have not yet announced which of the two escapees was arrested.

Officials with the United States Marshal's Service confirm to WWL that their agents arrested Antoine Massey at a house on Stroelitz Street in New Orleans near the Jefferson Parish line. Marshal's Service Chief Deputy Walter Martin says Massey was arrested "without incident" after a Crimestoppers tip led investigators to his location.

Louisiana State Police Superintendent Robert Hodges says Massey will be flown to Angola State Penitentiary later Friday evening, where he will be booked and held until his trial. Troopers say Massey may face additional charges on top of the car theft, domestic abuse battery, and parole violation counts he was in jail for when he escaped the OPJC.

Massey was considered to be one of the masterminds of the escape. He went viral online a few weeks ago after he posted several videos pleading his innocence and begging celebrities, including President Donald Trump, for legal assistance.

Derrick Groves is the final escapee who remains on the run. Hodges said authorities will not rest until Groves is arrested.

"We will not rest, even if it takes another six days or another six weeks, until the last fugitive is in custody," Hodges said. "We look forward to the opportunity and the day when Mr. Groves is taken into custody. "We would like it to be peacefully. We encourage him and anyone who knows him to reach out to any of the agencies you see here. You can remain anonymous, but we need your help."
