Crime in Jefferson Parish is at its lowest point since they started keeping good track of those numbers, according to the sheriff.

"I don't know how low they can go," Jefferson Parish Sheriff Joe Lopinto told WWL's Newell Normand. "We had our lowest year ever."

Lopinto said overall crime is down, and while homicide did pick up, that came after a record-low year in 2024.

"Nineteen homicides when our average is in the mid 30s to 40, so that was an unbelievable year," Lopinto said. "And this year, we didn't go up much, we went from 19, to 21."

Lopinto said every other crime category was down.

"A great year overall. Every other category: burglary, robbery, thefts, auto theft; all down," he said. "Keep going in the right direction and hopefully we can continue to do so for the future."
