Sizable jump in people feeling Louisiana is headed the right way

Louisiana

Do you think Louisiana is heading the right direction or wrong direction?

"The public mood in Louisiana has shifted in a positive direction over the past couple of years."

Survey Director Michael Henderson says just two years ago, Louisiana residents overwhelmingly felt the state was going the wrong way.

"It’s not overwhelmingly positive this year, but it’s much more even.... We’re seeing an increase in the people saying the state is heading in the right direction and a decrease in the share of people saying it’s heading in the wrong direction.”

He says they found about 50% now like the way things are going and 50% don't. Just two years ago, about 2/3 of the respondents said Louisiana was headed in the wrong direction.

"The economy once again tops the list of problems about which the public is concerned. Crime and education follow as the second and third most named issues."

Henderson says a big driver of the positive feeling is people’s views that their personal financial situation has improved in recent years.

More than 1,000 Louisiana residents were surveyed for this study.
