With Thanksgiving around the corner, hopefully, you already have your menu and décor picked out and have decided on who will make the dessert. Now all that's left... is the seating arrangement.

With today's political climate, that may prove harder than ever before. But, it is possible to avoid family strife and keep things festive.

Dr. Andrea Bonsior Clinical Psychologist and Adjunct Professor at Georgetown University says there are two things to keep in mind this holiday season.

"First you want to go prepared. Maybe have a statement that you will make if controversy comes up. Also, have an escape route. Excuse yourself and take a walk."

The holidays are already stressful with travel, gift giving, and family get togethers and Dr. Bonsior says she expects that what's going on in society will double anxieties.

Even romantic partnerships are taking a heavier hit.

"People are questioning whether their partner's opinions go beyond just politics and wondering if there are character and moral issues that need to be reconsidered."

All in all, Dr. Bonsior says it is important to remember that these are the people you love.
