A former Jefferson Parish councilman is denied in his attempt to rejoin the body as voters send the mayor of Lafitte and a one-time former legislative candidate to a runoff for a Westbank council race.

Tim Kerner, Jr., and Andrea Manuel will meet in April’s general election. Each pulled in 36 percent of the vote in Saturday’s primary election, with Manuel besting Kerner by 74 votes. Former councilman Ricky Templet ran third, taking 28 percent of the vote.

Three Westwego City Council races were decided on Saturday, one by the slimmest of margins. John Shaddinger, Jr., will represent District 1 after taking 58 percent of the vote to beat two opponents. Johnny Nobles, Jr., will serve District 2 after beating Timothy Matherne by a 73-27 margin. In District 5, Larry Warino beat Robert Bonvillian by three votes—194 to 191—to serve on the council.

In Gretna, voters in District 4 elected Randy Carr to the city council. Carr edged out Robert Black by a 55-45 margin.

Voters in the West Jefferson Levee District shot down a property tax renewal to fund district operations. The tax expires in 2028, giving district officials several more opportunities to ask voters to renew it before it sunsets.
