The Krewe of Alla carnival parade is moving to mid-week.
The New Orleans City Council approved in a 5-0 vote Thursday the krewe's request to parade on Wednesday night following the Ancient Druids parade.
That part of the schedule had been filled by the Krewe of Nyx, until the council voted earlier this year to revoke Nyx's parade permit. Nyx's membership plummeted after controversy over krewe founder Julie Lea's social media posts amid the Black Lives Matter protests of 2020, and complaints about how Lea was managing the organization.
Last Carnival, Alla paraded at the end of a Friday night triple-header at the start of parade season. The parade did not end until after 1:30 a.m., which meant an even later night for the people who work post-parade cleanup and other duties.
