A leaking oil well is sending petroleum into Bayou Des Allemands, and response crews are doing what they can to contain that spill.
According to a post on the Lafourche Parish Government's social media pages, Parish President Mitch Orgeron was notified of the spill Friday evening. That oil well, officials said, is located south of Des Allemands.
"Containment devices are deployed and the well owner is mobilizing equipment. Keep following our page for further information and please avoid the area near the well," the post said.
Officials have not said how much oil has leaked out of the well into the bayou.
