Boyd Gaming will publicly unveil plans for a new land-based Treasure Chest Casino Wednesday. The project is expected to provide a significant upgrade in the quality of the Casino’s non-gaming offerings and provide a boost to the local economy.
According to Boyd, while the project has not accepted any bid yet they do expect it should be complete by late 2023 and comes with a 95 million dollar price tag. Boyd Senior VP of Operations Vincent Schwartz told the State Gaming Commission the project should have a 125 million dollar economic impact.
“The jobs associated with the construction activity during construction is just over 1,000,” said Schwartz. “Treasure Chest currently has about 300 employees and with the land-based should have about 500 (full-time direct employees).”
The new Treasure Chest will feature more restaurants and bars, along with a combination sportsbook/sports-grill, a 300 plus person event center, a steakhouse, and a near doubling of Casino floor space.
“It’s much more spacious, a much better guest experience,” said Schwartz.
Another benefit of the expansion will be the facility’s increased accessibility. The plan is to build the new casino in the current casino’s parking lot. That means visitors won’t have to hitch a ride on a shuttle over the levee to get to the current riverboat Casino.
Schwartz also confirmed that operations at the riverboat casino will not be impacted by the roughly year-long construction process.
