LDH reports over 4,000 new cases in one day, 514 hospitalized

As businesses across Louisiana feel the impact of a growing Omicron variant surge, the Louisiana Department of Health reports 4,313 new cases since Monday. The health department says those cases come out of the 18,359 tests done to detect the ongoing threat of the Omicron variant in Louisiana.

Of those new cases, 514 people had to be hospitalized for treatment, and the majority of those patients have not been vaccinated the LDH reports.


The latest numbers include new cases across all age groups in the state. Ages 18-29 make up 26% and ages 30-39 are at 21% according to the LDH report.

Looking by region, the LDH reports that most of those new cases are coming from Region 1, the Greater New Orleans Area, which makes up 29% of today’s new cases. For contrast, the LDH reports that Region 7, Northwest Louisiana, holds at 18% and the Baton Rouge area, Region 2, makes up 17% of those new cases.

Included in today’s LDH COVID numbers were eight deaths and 35 people are on ventilators.
