“This should have been a cut and dry case,” said Jinny Griffin, the sister of Linda Frickey, a woman who was dragged to her death during a carjacking around one year ago.

Jurors for the trial of the four suspected teenage carjackers were expected to be selected this week, but the trial was instead delayed until next March. Griffin and Frickey’s sister-in-law Kathy Richard joined WWL’s Newell Normand that the family is “disappointed” in the decision.

March 18, 2024 is the new trial date.

During the carjacking, Frickey’s body became tangled and her arm was ripped from her body. She was in her early 70s. At least one of the suspects has been unable to participate in legal proceedings due to mental health concerns.

“She says that she’s going to delay the trial 11 months because it took the prosecutors nearly a year to test the DNA and that she would afford the defense attorneys the same amount of time, said Normand of Orleans Parish Criminal District Judge Kimya Holmes. “Well, obviously, she’s not considering the fact that New Orleans does not have its own DNA lab. It cannot set a priority on this,” he continued.

However, the family said they don’t have issues with the judge. They think Holmes doesn’t want the trial to be delayed. Learn why the family thinks the trial is being delayed here.
