Live crawfish $2 a pound or less, but season ending soon

If you’re still hankering for some crawfish a seafood expert told WWL you need to go get your bags ASAP.

“This season will probably end quicker this year it looks like, looks like the crawfish are getting a little bigger, and different things but they are still nice fat crawfish, so if you are going to do crawfish don’t hesitate, do it now,” said Gulf Seafood Institute Chairman Harlon Pearce. “I don’t think you should hesitate, in the next couple of weeks do what you got to do.”

The price per pound of live crawfish in the New Orleans Metro Area is at $2 and below according to the Crawfish App, and Pearce does not expect the prices to really fall much further before escalating once the season comes to an end.

Pearce says outside of crawfish we’re seeing crab meat prices finally come down, and softshell crab season has begun but prices are pretty high at the moment. Oyster prices are not expected to fall in the near future, and shrimp season is looking like it will be really strong given the lack of rain.
