With LSU hanging on to dwindling hopes of sneaking into the playoff picture this season, fans across Louisiana are calling for change. Glenn Guilbeau, editor of Tiger Rag, says the problems this LSU football team are currently facing ultimately comes down to one issue: a lack of recruiting prowess. For years, LSU stood toe to toe with SEC powerhouses when it came down to recruiting the top football players available across the country. Not so much under this new regime, according to Guilbeau.
“Everyone knew this was going to be a bit of a rebuilding year for the offensive line,” Guilbeau noted. “But, what that also says is that Brian Kelly, unlike the three coaches that came before him at LSU, has not been a great recruiter. Saban was a top five class every year. Les Miles and Ed Orgeron tended to be in the top ten, sometimes in the top five. (Kelly) is not a top ten recruiter and has not really brought in that type of talent,” he went on to explain. That, ultimately, is what leads to the play Tiger fans are feeling so disappointed by.
Guilbeau notes that there are always highly qualified head coaches out there, he doesn’t believe the LSU program is at a point where they’re circling names of potential replacements for Brian Kelly.
