Woldenberg Park and Spanish Plaza are packed with Lundi Gras revelers who are awaiting the arrivals of the Zulu King and Rex to proclaim Mardi Gras in New Orleans. The Zulu King will arrive at Zulu Fest in Woldenberg Park around 5 p.m. before making the short walk to Spanish Plaza to meet with Rex.

The two festivals have attracted an even mix of out-of-towners and locals who are celebrating the final days of Carnivals.

Orlando resident Sabrina Sykes says she and her family have come to Zulu Fest and the Zulu Parade for the last 10 years. She says the culutre surrounding Zulu's festivities is unlike any other.

"It doesn't get any better than this," Sykes said. "The music, the food, and the people are awesome."

Lavania Barrow of Atlanta said she came to the Crescent City this Mardi Gras because wanted to experience that culture firsthand.

"Understanding the history of Zulu and being able to see the king and knowing where the history of the slaves and African-Americans being here, being able to celebrate the last three days has been special to me," Barrow said.

For one local, today's events represent a bucket list item fulfilled.

Karen Garner says she goes to all of the parades every year, including Rex and Zulu, but she says this is the first time she's celebrated Lundi Gras by attending the royal arrivals.

"I wanted to see Zulu and Rex meet off the water," Garner said. "I've wanted to. I thought it would be too much trouble, but it actually wasn't. I put it on my bucket list. I'm doing it. I'm out here, and I'm having a good time."
