An arrest has been made in the Friday night shooting of a Texas A&M football fan outside a Baton Rouge drinking establishment.
The incident started over an attempted wager over a game of pool at Bogie’s Bar on E. Boyd Drive, according to a witness who spoke with WAFB.
When the attempted bet was denied, a fistfight began inside the bar, which then spilled out into the parking lot. That’s where a gunshot was fired.
The victim was taken to a local hospital with a gunshot wound in his shoulder.
Parker McBride, 22, was arrested after surveillance video from the bar showed him firing the shot. Police say he later confessed.
“I interviewed the defendant who advised he shot the victim during the fight,” the police report said, according to WAFB. “The defendant stated that there were several people attacking him so he fired a single shot to protect himself.”
A black semiautomatic handgun was recovered at the scene. McBride has been charged with illegal use of a weapon, aggravated second-degree battery, possession of a firearm on the premises of an alcoholic beverage outlet and disturbing the peace.
The victim’s gunshot wound is not considered to be life-threatening.
