The man whom Hammond police say was shot by his teenaged son during an argument outside a local school has died.
In a social media post, officials from the Hammond Police Department said the man succumbed to the injuries he suffered during Tuesday’s shooting at the Tangipahoa Alternative School.
According to investigators, that shooting happened after the man’s 13-year-old son refused to get out of his father’s car to go into the school. Authorities say the teen shot his father after the man decided to bring the child back home. A school resource officer and HPD lieutenant who were at the school and who had spoken to the man minutes prior to the shooting heard the gunshots and took the teen into custody without incident.
The teen is now facing an upgraded charge of second-degree murder in connection with his father’s death. The case remains under investigation.
