A 37-year-old self-described social media influencer who shot and killed a valet outside the Ace Hotel on Carondolet Street says he did it in self defense. Lavanzel Kerr told The Times-Picayune | New Orleans Advocate that the valet pistol-whipped him and demanded $100.
Kerr said shooting 21-year-old Alton Williams was a "last resort," saying "at that point, I feared for my life."
At least one witness gave a written statement backing up Kerr's claim. An attorney for Williams' family says they have interviewed witnesses who say Williams neither hit Kerr nor had a gun in his hands.
Law enforcement sources told the publication they confiscated guns from both parties.
