A suspect wanted by New Orleans police for a midday murder in Mid-City is in the hospital after a he was shot by an officer who tracked him to Gentilly.
The suspect was one of two men wanted in connection with the homicide that happened on Ulloa Street near South Pierce Street during the day on Thursday. That shooting left a woman dead and a man in the hospital.
According to NOPD Chief Deputy Superintendent Hans Ganthier, surveillance cameras helped officers track the suspects to an area of Painters Street near Allen Toussaint Boulevard. Ganthier says when officers arrived, the two suspects ran away, leading officers to chase them. During that chase, one of the pursuing officers shot one of the suspects in the leg.
Ganthier did not say what led to the officer firing his gun. However, he did say officers found guns on the suspects when they finally captured them.
The wounded suspect is in the hospital, where his condition is reportedly stable. The second suspect is in jail. Police have not yet released their names.
