Visitors pour into Raceland to attend Mike Detillier’s funeral

The news of Mike Detillier’s death came as a shock to Louisiana and the entire world of sports broadcasting.

Thousands offered condolences on air and online, sharing thoughts, prayers, and tributes to a beloved figure whose voice and expertise earned him the respect and admiration of fans, players, coaches, and experts across the nation.


Saturday, Mike Detillier was laid to rest at Hilary of Poitiers Catholic Church in Raceland, Louisiana.

The in-person gathering to celebrate the life and mourn the passing of Detillier proved to be just as strong, with throngs of visitors pouring in from all over the Gulf South to Detillier's homeland in Lafourche Parish.

Among those in attendance included Bobby Hebert, Deuce McAllister, Mike Hoss, Steve Geller, Ian Auzenne, Rich Mauti, Dean Kleinschmidt and many loyal WWL listeners.


"Mike is survived by his loving and devoted wife of 45 years, Linda Brown Detillier; his daughter, Stephanie, and her husband, Clyde Verdin, of New Orleans; his daughter, Kimberly, and her husband, Jordan Westmoreland, of Lockport; his greatest joy — his two granddaughters, Norah and Mia Westmoreland; his brother, Milton Detillier, and his wife, Mae, of Bowling Green, Kentucky; his nephews, Paul and Miguel Detillier; his mother-in-law, Alice Baye; and his sister-in-law, Susan Rudolph. He was preceded in death by his parents, Gerald Detillier and Gladys Babin Detillier; his father-in-law, Nolan Baye; and his sister-in-law, Cindy Montero Detillier."
