The feud between President Donald Trump and former advisor Elon Musk could lead to Congress killing Trump's so-called "Big Beautiful Bill," and at least one member of the Louisiana delegation could play a roll in killing that bill.

According to LSU political science professor Robert Hogan, Louisiana's senior senator could be the most likely member of the delegation to vote "no."

"Bill Cassidy, someone who set aside professional standards in terms of his profession to go along with Robert Kennedy and all of these other things that Trump wants, because he knows if he doesn't, all Trump's got to do is tweet (that) Bill Cassidy is a RINO," Hogan said.

Hogan believes that Musk's opposition to Trump's spending plan gives Cassidy political cover should he vote against the "Big Beautiful Bill." According to Hogan, Cassidy is among the Senate Republicans who have problems with the "Big Beautiful Bill" and may use Musk's break from Trump as an excuse to kill the bill.

"Up until this point, they have simply rolled over because Trump is so powerful," Hogan said. "This may give support to people who share Musk's view and are glad that someone has finally stood up to Trump on this issue."

Hogan also notes that Musk's deep pockets may also influence Cassidy and other Senate Republicans up for reelection next year to vote "no."

"He can get behind other candidates in Republican primaries who take his position," Hogan said of Musk.
