At her press conference Thursday, Mayor Latoya Cantrell said anyone caught not wearing a mask in the city of New Orleans could be issued a $500 fine.
“There are already laws on the books, been there, it is just a matter of taking that step to enforce based on our police officers’ discretion,” said Cantrell.
If someone is issued the fine but cannot afford to pay the $500 there is an option to do community service.
“Now I’ve worked out something as well… can’t pay the 500 dollar fine... you can surely work it off doing litter abatement in the city of New Orleans because there is a lot to clean up,” said Cantrell.
